The Fantasy Worlds of Peter S. Beagle

The Fantasy Worlds of Peter Beagle
by Peter S. Beagle
The Viking Press, 1978
foreword by Peter S. Beagle

Fantasy is a Book Club compilation of Beagle's best-known works at the time (heck, probably best-known of any time).

It has a jacket cover which was later used for an edition of The Last Unicorn, which is strange, since there was no raven, werewolf, or Lady Death in The Last Unicorn, but the painting is so pure and apt, I'll forgive them this time.

The cover and inside illustrations (which, by the way, are also breathtaking) are by Darrell K. Sweet, who has done a number of Beagle covers.

Fantasy contains:
The Last Unicorn
Come, Lady Death
Lila the Werewolf
A Fine and Private Place

as well as a several-pages-long foreword by Beagle entitled "The Self-Made Werewolf" wherein he discusses his early influences, his music, his other works, gives a short history on each of the works, and lets the reader see a rare glimpse of the man behind the magic.
